Job Description:

My clients based near the borders of Suffolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex are looking for a Fibre Optics Development Engineer.

This role is commutable from Cambridge, Saffron Walden, Royston, Dunmow, Braintree, Haverhill, Newmarket, Bury St. Edmunds.

This organisation designs & manufactures an extensive range of optical fibre based sub-systems with superior hermeticity & optical termination, as well as high efficiency coupling of lases, fibres & detectors.

Main activities.
Interacting with Sales and Marketing on product definition, specifications and costing.
Participating in design activities for new products with design engineers.
Defining the BOM for new products and identifying suitable suppliers.
Develop new processes and build prototypes.
Providing initial product qualification against appropriate standards.
Liaising with the Planning department to ensure timely procurement of parts.
Development of process /product metrology and inspection techniques for new products.
In collaboration with manufacturing generate documentation of processes and associated record keeping, including product traceability.
Supporting product transfer to production and potential issues while in production.
Attend customer and supplier liaison meetings as required.
Where appropriate support Manufacturing on existing products and processes, including participation in problem solving Task Teams.
Supporting the QA department on RMAs, vendor evaluation and quality reports.

Qualifications and experience.
You should have a good Honours degree in a Science or Engineering discipline or equivalent experience. Ideally you will have process or product development experience in a high technology manufacturing environment.

You will be Hands-on with a pragmatic approach and excellent attention to detail, with the ability to manage a number of projects, through effective planning and time management skills.

Some experience of reliability testing & quality control and the understanding of the basic principles of fibre optics would also be desirable.
