Job Description:

Principal Project Manager

 

Our client is seeking an experienced dynamic Project Manager to coordinate all company and supplier activities required to achieve project targets and deliverables for Projects up to and including the large sized Projects running within the engineering division. This includes timing, budgetary, technical and customer related projects.

 

The Role:

 

Define and negotiate project work scope, deliverables and global project timing and price, including milestones and gateways, with the customer

 

Liaise with company functions to define company project activities to achieve global project timing, including milestones and gateways

 

Provide understanding of customer processes that will be followed during the programme, and plan company project activities to suit

 

Agree project team members with Function Heads

 

Implement latest Project Management processes and tools and develop existing processes as required

 

Define responsibilities and objectives of section leaders within the project team and measure and feedback performance against these objectives

 

Agree responsibilities and objectives of other team members (with section leaders where applicable)

 

Monitor the implementation of latest Functional processes and procedures throughout the project

 

Co-ordinate activities between Sections to achieve project deliverables and milestones to the agreed plan

 

Plan and forecast as necessary, resource from Functions to achieve project deliverables, milestones, invoicing & margin

 

Accept bookings to project plans

 

Ensure customer requirements are met, if necessary where work scope change is not within agreed scope, raise PCR to secure additional funding from customer

 

Agree changes in project work scope with customer and Head of Projects

 

Organise and facilitate Project Meetings and Concerns Meetings as latest PM processes

 

Participate in internal project review meetings as requested

 

Co-ordinate and attend customer Project Status meetings and co-ordinate external project status reports

 

Lead internal Gateway reviews

 

Lead project close out meetings and reviews

 

Develop and inform relevant Sales Team on new and continuation business opportunities with the customer

 

Managing the Project Team (typically 10 to 30 people); definition of individual responsibilities, monitoring of progress against deliverables, input to personal

 

Additionally, as a Senior Manager of the company, you will be expected to actively mentor and develop less experienced engineers within the company and to contribute to the development of the company in general by way of process improvements

 

Requirements:

 

A relevant Engineering Degree i.e. Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Automotive

 

At least 10 years experience in the field of engine technology, of which ideally a minimum of 5 years will have been in the Automotive Industry. Other industry sectors such as Aeronautical, Marine, Off Road, Two wheeled vehicles etc will also be of interest.

 

A proven track record of managing an automotive engineering project through to completion

 

Managing and leading teams of greater than 10 engineers

 

A high technical level in one of the major Automotive Engineering disciplines: Design, Development, Calibration and a good understanding of the remaining disciplines

 

A detailed understanding of typical Automotive program Work Breakdown Structures, Task dependencies, Timing and Budgets. The ability to plan and resource full engine engineering programs from initial concept through to SOP covering all Client sites is expected

 

Knowledge of Quality Engineering processes and procedures: APQP, Product

Specification, System Specification, FMEA, Design Verification Planning, Concerns System

 

Experience of vehicle engineering and vehicle product launch requirements would be beneficial

 

An experienced user of MS software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project

 

Strong negotiation and excellent communication skills are essential

 

Presentation skills in both a business development capacity and as a means of providing project status to the customer

 

The ability to influence the customer, senior management and team members is essential

 

Good facilitator of meetings is desirable

 

The ability to identify and control risks to an engineering program is desirable

 

Good time management & delegation skills are desirable
