| We currently have a requirement for a design engineer to work for a bespoke engineering company based in Hampshire. Ideally you will have a strong knowledge of mechanical design as well as an understanding of FE analysis. You will be responsible for the preparation of the designs for conventional products, components, assemblies, parts and accessories and complicated layout drawings of components and/or systems. This position typically operates under the supervision of senior project engineering personnel. Responsibility: 1. Provide conventional designs and complicated layouts of product components, assemblies, parts and accessories using 3D CAD system. a. Prepare designs and layout drawings of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical equipment or intricate printed circuit designs using sketches, verbal instructions, previous designs, and the like. Check drawings for accuracy as well as functional and manufacturing feasibility. b. Consult with senior engineering personnel on design configuration and concepts to ensure that they are economically and mechanically sound. c. Perform a variety of mathematical calculations relative to designs and layouts. Prepare reports and supporting documentation d. Determine or review the applicability of tooling and fixtures required for fabrication of parts and components. Co-ordinate with manufacturing / suppliers to ensure the manufacturability of designs. e. Work with engineering personnel in the development and preparation of test procedures and other design documentation, such as reliability and analysis reports. Follow-up test results to determine functional feasibility of components and parts. f. Product and control manufacturing drawings and bills of material for all components and assemblies. 2. Make design modifications to a variety of components and assemblies. a. Prepare complicated design modifications to components to improve product. b. Assign simple design modifications to layout and drafting personnel. Knowledge: 1. Detailed knowledge of assembly, machining and manufacturing processes in order to determine the optimum design for ease of manufacture 2. Seasoned knowledge of design and layout drafting techniques, practice and procedures. Knowledge of engineering theory and its application to solve design and layout problems. 3. Normal courtesy and tact in personal, telephone and written contact with related departments to gather technical information. Human Relations skills to assign work to and lead less experienced drafting personnel. 4. Knowledge and practical experience of conventional stress analysis and FE analysis (stress/thermal etc) would be an advantage 5. Experience of the Aerospace industry would be an advantage PROBLEM SOLVING Analysis and preparation of design and layouts of conventional products within a framework of general design specifications.
