| The position of Lead Buyer is an important one within the organization and the incumbent will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day purchasing activities of the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that goods and services are procured for the company's fleet of vessels whilst meeting the required specifications, price and quality levels within delivery deadlines. The position reports directly to the Operations Manager. The remit of the Lead Buyer extends to: - Ensuring that all items are ordered and supplied to specification within the required timescales - Achieve on-time delivery of goods through a pro-active approach and communicate all relevant information on a timely basis to vendors, in-house departments and vessels - Ensure all purchase orders are progressed in the company SAP system in accordance with company procedures - Manage approved vendor listings and contact lists to ensure they remain accurate and current - Monitor and review approved vendor's list and provide feedback to the Operations Manager on quality issues etc. as necessary - Ensure vendors adhere to agreed price and delivery deadlines - Identify potential vendors and develop good relations with them - Negotiate contracts, agreements and terms & conditions with vendors - Maintain key vendor performance figures and take corrective actions as required - Formulate purchasing strategies - Adopt a proactive approach to resolving issues before they impact upon business performance - Identify, propose and support improvements to the purchasing function including cost saving opportunities within the supply chain - Provide cover as required during sickness and holidays - Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested Experience & Qualifications: - A proven track record within a Technical Purchasing role. Alternatively shipboard experience in an engineering capacity would be beneficial - Good negotiation, planning and scheduling skills are necessary - Excellent IT and communication skills (written and oral) - Good supervisory skills - Experience of a SAP procurement database - A qualification in purchasing would be an advantage Personal Qualities Required: - Possess a mature and sensible attitude - Be practical in their thinking and possess good common sense - Firm yet diplomatic in business dealings - Copes well when working under pressure and rises to the challenge - A good team player who can lead and motivate subordinates - Has the ability to cope with fluctuating work demands and can work to deadlines even when pressurised - A self-starter who can prioritise workload and is flexible and adaptable - A committed and dedicated individual who is willing to work additional hours as the job dictates - A methodical individual who possesses excellent administration skills To apply for this position, candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK Matchtech Group Plc is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy. | ||
