| The Client is seeking Safety engineers who are keen to make a significant contribution to the defence systems business, delivering high quality technical work to clients in this rapidly expanding market Requirements Successful candidates will need: > To be degree qualified, or have demonstrable relevant experience / responsibilities > To have competent systems engineering skills, with knowledge and experience of aerospace, marine, or land based systems Personal Characteristics Successful candidates will: > Be professional in approach and performance > Have strong written and verbal communication skills > Have commercial awareness i.e. project and financial management, bid preparation, etc > Be a team worker, with ability to effectively manage themselves and colleagues. > Have previous consultancy experience or major contracts / Armed Services experience, preferably in the Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, Marine/Offshore or Nuclear markets > Be a chartered engineer or actively working towards it Have an interest in safety and or matters through: > membership of UK, European or US safety, reliability, integrated logistics, risk, human factor societies or working groups etc > production of articles, papers and conference presentations in their discipline > Knowledge and awareness of their discipline, related disciplines, and developments across varied markets. Full understanding of supportability within a systems engineering military environment is essential. As such, sound knowledge and experience of many of the following is expected: > Scoping, implementing, managing and delivering system safety programmes > Safety case compilation and safety case report authoring > Risk, tolerability and ALARP > Derivation of safety targets > Safety; auditing and subsequent provision of advice at influential levels > Qualitative, quantitative or pseudo-quantitative risk analysis > Various hazard Identification and analysis techniques > Various risk assessment techniques > Hazard log management > through-life safety management > Defence standards 00-56, MIL-STD-882, IEC 61508 or equivalent. > Joint service publications, 365, 418, 430, 434, 520, 553. > Other related defence standards, e.g. POSMS, POEMS > Relationships to related and integrated disciplines > Derivation of safety integrity levels (SILs) > Military and civilian systems procurement / acquisition processes > Civil safety regulations, legislation and procedures > Software safety > Systematic software failure modes > Real-time system development methods > High integrity software development methods > Accident causation and explosion mechanisms > Explosives safety management > Explosion effects and consequence analysis > Human factors > Major hazards regulation, e.g. COMAH / MACR > Training Additional Information Some work outside normal office hours may be necessary. Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to clients offices may also be required.
