| Principal Naval Architect required for a leading marine design and engineering consultancy involved in the offshore, defence and marine industry. Candidates will ideally have a sea-going background. The successful candidate will undertake project work and oversee technical performance, including engineering, design and analysis in support of the company's Naval Architecture, and engineering contracts. Key Responsibilities in order of priority: - Ability to understand, supervise, distribute and oversee analysis of important project criteria. - Calculate and give advice / assistance in calculating vessel motions / stability / strength. - Carry out stability calculations for project teams, maintenance of the vessel stability software and documentation through the preparation of stability submissions, software models, inclining experiments, displacement checks etc. - Undertake structural design calculations to class requirements in support of vessel upgrades and modifications - Review and approve structural design calculations and proposal for temporary equipment installations and sea-fastenings prepared by project teams and 3rd party design consultants. - To ensure that crane lift operations are carried out within the safe working limits of the vessel cranes. - To ensure that all proposed works to be carried out onboard vessels which fall within the remit of the Naval Architects are carried out to best industry and statutory standards in a safe and cost effective manner. - Review and approve deck strength calculation packages prepared by Project Teams and 3rd party design consultants. - Perform lift analysis calculations for subsea and heavy lift operations. - Carry out calculation to ensure that dock block loading will not compromise the structural integrity of the vessel. - Conduct design review meetings to assure that technical objectives are being achieved - Assist the Sales team in preparing any bid documents that require technical input - Act as a Mentor to Graduate trainees - Promote all aspects of the Company to clients - Candidate may be a leader or part of a team for site surveys, including deadweight surveys, inclining experiments, equipment tests and other site activities - Ensure that all design work under own control is performed, reviewed, checked and approved in accordance with the engineering procedures or when specified to a Project Quality Plan - Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Company Quality Control procedures - Ensure the maintenance of a filing system directly related to the work undertaken by the Naval Architects. - Any other duties as required may be required from time to time by senior management Experience (minimum required): Essential - Project management of large contracts - Experience of complex projects - Familiarity with knowledge of specialist software for stability, motions and hydraulics, mooring, structural and FEM analysis to enable the supervision and leadership of a team of operators. - Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word etc and other software such as AutoCAD - Experience on Seagoing vessels - Solid Engineering background, with demonstrable knowledge of vessels' structure, machinery and systems enabling effective technical solutions for our clients' problems to be developed and the ability to formulate the methods to be used in the engineering analysis - Knowledge of Classification Society codes Knowledge \ Qualifications: - Essential: BEng (Hons), MEng or MSc (or equivalent) in Naval Architecture, Ship Science or other relevant subject - Preferred: Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects Benefits with this position include 23 days holiday (+ bank holidays), pension scheme, Life Assurance, Private Health cover, Employee Benefit Trust and Bonus scheme.
