| Senior Mechanical Engineer - Lubrication Team
We are supporting a global, diverse technology leader and the World's largest and most successful engine company. Our client leads the field in the design and manufacture of high-performance engines. Their continuous development programme, dedicated to furthering engine design allows them to offer one of the most advanced and comprehensive ranges of purpose-built diesel engines available today.

They are committed to an expansion programme throughout 2007 and beyond that includes the acquisition of a wide range of engineering specialists within: Mechanical Engineering, CAE, Performance & Emissions, Electronics, Global Engine Development and Aftertreatment.
The lubrication component team require an experienced design/development engineer to support the design and validation activities for the lubrication system. The role includes, generating concept proposals for new NPI programmes, providing support to current products and developing DV plans using rig and engine testing. A good understanding of how the lubrication system influences and is influenced by other engine systems and the ability to work closely with black box suppliers and other functional areas are pre-requisites. The types of components to be developed include Lub. Oil pumps, Coolers and Filtration components.
The Role:
Mechanical design/development of engine systems and components from concept through validation and into production, to time cost and quality
Develop and maintain activity and resource plans for design/development, and provide dates for drawing, tooling and production release and verification
Maintain manufacturing assembly and service procedures for engine components
Deliver Pro-engineer CAD models, analysis and detail drawings
Supply Illustrated parts lists (IPLs) and option compatibility statements to drive the release and procurement process
Support supplier development and APQP process
Oversee the completion of FMEAs and conduct design reviews as appropriate
Present and support Product realisation reviews (PRR) activities
Raise and process ECRs (Engineering Change Requests) and ECOs
Arrange and supervise component test activities through the Test manager system
Requirements:
Degree qualified in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, with 4 to 6 years relevant experience
Sound base engine engineering knowledge, with significant experience in many of the following core competencies:Core principles: fluid mechanics, heat transfer, dynamics, statics, and materialsEngine systems: lubrication, cooling, sealing, in-cylinder, vibration and fatigueEngineering processes: design, CAD, supplier, product and manufacturing processesCreative: concept engine and system design, spatial awareness, ability to pursue patent information and infringement, cost effective design, variety minimisationDesign: Pro-engineering modelling, detailing and analysis, design calculations (hand), ability to define CAE inputs and derive design conclusions
Awareness of supplier and manufacturing processes, material selection, casting design and processes, DFMEA
Related functional awareness: NVH, CAE, performance, emissions and calibration, customer applications
Tools: 6 Sigma, FMEA, 8D
Ability to work in a multi-functional team and large organisation.
Enthusiasm, initiative and willingness to learn and keep abreast of new technologies
Effective communicator
Good planning and project management skills, maintaining the Master Control Plan (MCP) Willingness to travel
