Job Description:
Mechanical Design Team Leader with strong technical and supervisory knowledge to work for an aerospace supplier based in Hampshire. Our client is a 1st tier supplier of component parts to the aerospace industry.

You will be responsible for working with internal and external customers to design application-specific, electromechanical human interface devices. you will also be responsible for the day-to-day Mechanical Engineering Function, including all personnel within the team and for ensuring the function continues to achieve its goals.
You will be required to deputise for the Engineering Manager when not available.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
*Develop project cost estimates to support new business bids
*Collate and report Engineering labour spend on a project by project basis
*Ensures configuration control is applied in accordance with company standards
*Ensures the quality and integrity of designs/ drawings and documentation of reports.
*Perform the role of Engineering Manager, during Engineering Manager's absence
*Schedules work of reports on day to day basis
*Management and development of direct reports
*Provide management information to Engineering Manager in line with reporting requirements
*Identify and Drive change and improvement, identify needs within the department including processes and procedures
*Assist in the development of department budgets, proposals and manage costs
*3 D modelling of parts and assemblies
*2 D drawings of parts, assemblies and product data sheets
*Develop product BOMs,
*Leading and/or participating in project teams to develop new products
*Manage change control of current products
*Customer Facing to establish product/project requirements and demonstrate compliance during project reviews
*Liaising with suppliers to establish optimum design solutions
*Development of product specifications
*Development and management of project timing plans

Other Responsibilities/Non-essential Functions
*Undertake training that is identified as a requirement of the role as identified by the role Manager.
*Undertake all other reasonable requests that are made by the role manager/acting manager or Directors.
*At times of reduced department staff attendance there will be a need to be flexible and provide support outside of the normal tasks of the job to ensure customer satisfaction.
*On occasion you maybe required to take on ad hoc duties which includes, but is not limited to training, department associated tasks and brief secondment to other departments.
*People Management skills
*Designing for Manufacturability and Designing for Speed.
*Plastic, elastomer, and metal part design and fabrication experience.
*Designing for EMC compliance.
*Ability to establish sourcing and tooling strategies, and execute to that strategy.
*High-end CAD tool experience, preferably with ProE or Solidedge.
*Proficient user of MS Office
*Familiarity with Industry Drafting Standards.
*Ability to produce general purpose, reusable design elements.
*Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with customers, vendors, and factory personnel.
*Ability to manage design projects from conception through to production.
*Ability to manage multiple projects at the design stage, dependant on complexity
*Design verification and validation
*Working in Aerospace, Automotive or very closely related industry
*Management of engineering staff
*Working in a Configuration Controlled environment
*Experience with designing and analyzing multi-part mechanisms and mechanical/electromechanical assemblies
*Experience with industry standard PC interfaces
*Electronic Packaging experience.
*Rapid Prototyping experience.
*Experience with 2D CAD tools
*Experience with managing and leading internal resources as well as external contracting design resources
*Experience in direct customer technical leadership and guidance
*Experience with all aspects of end product packaging trade-offs

Qualifications:
*Electronics, Mechanical or Aerospace Systems degree or similar
