| An exciting opportunity has arisen in the midlands for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to work on Transmission control in the automotive industry Objectives of Role - To implement industry best practice for all aspects of Transmission Control. - To provide "hands-on" technical support for projects. Including all aspects of transmission control leading to successful production introduction. This will also include control of test rigs, prototypes transmissions and demonstration vehicles. - To provide technical supervision of Control System personnel Key Duties/Responsibilities - To Lead Control System design & development work (minimum single project). - To specify, implement & maintain effective Test Rig control & instrumentation requirements. - The preparation of control system specifications & planning of required facilities and resources to achieve successful completion - into series production. - To liaise effectively with tier 1 automotive suppliers for specification & joint development, for example, production TCU & Control software and electro-hydraulic manifold assemblies - To liaise effectively with technical staff through analysis of test results, preparation of concise technical reports and participation in structured problem solving teams. - To advise & provide support to Transmission Design & Development with regard to integration of electronic and hydraulic control systems. - Facilitate appropriate & efficient technical delivery - Resource planning & allocation of designated Control system staff - Contribute to preparation of client proposals (resource, time and approach) Person Specification Qualifications Required Engineering Degree or equivalent experience. Full UK driving licence. Qualifications Preferred Degree (=2.1) in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering Experience Required Ideally 5 years experience of Automotive Powertrain Control including both Rig & Vehicle based production transmission Test programmes. Structured failure analysis methods. Specification and use of instrumentation & PC based data acquisition systems. Experience of using a range modern automotive software tools & techniques for control system design, development and calibration including HIL, SIL, dSpace, Matlab, Simulink, Vector Canapé and National Instruments LabView. Experience Preferred Experience of design, test and development of automatic transmissions with electro-hydraulic control systems would be advantageous, but not essential. PC/CAD Skills Required Computer literate - Microsoft Office. Knowledge of computer data and acquisition systems and analysis of test data. PC/CAD Skills Preferred Advanced user - Microsoft Excel. There will be regular air travel with this role, mostly European but occasionally far east and US.
